Staying on top of your game

The Carpet and Rug Institute offers the following continuing education units (CEUs), which have been certified by the Interior Design Continuing Education Council (IDCEC).  These one-hour courses were developed by the members of CRI.  This Web page will be updated as new IDCEC-certified CEUs become available. 

  • CEU 201 — IDCEC Course #4893 — Carpet Construction: This course covers carpet manufacturing processes, construction methods, tufted industry product types, tufting process elements, and commercial face weights. Not approved for HS or W CEU Credit

  • CEU 202 — IDCEC Course #5171 — Fibers and Yarns: This one hour course reviews information about fibers and yarn. It allows individuals to understand the fiber manufacturing process, learn the benefits of various fibers, learn how yarns are processed, and understand the characteristics of fibers and yarns and how to distinguish one from another. Not approved for HS or W CEU credit.

  • CEU 203 — IDCEC Course #4999 — Dye Methods: This course covers types of dye methods, the process and machines used for each method, and characteristics of each dye method. Approved for W CEU credit.

  • CEU 204 — IDCEC Course #5143 — Carpet Testing Methods: This one-hour course allows question and answer interaction with the instructor as the audience learns detailed, technical information on carpet testing requirements and methods.  This course also introduces the Green Label Plus test methods — that meet the California 1350 Collaborative of High Performance Schools (CHPS) standards — and covers a long list of other carpet test methods, including those that meet American Society of Test Materials (ASTM) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards. Approved for W CEU credit.

  • CEU 205 — IDCEC Course #5324 — Backing Systems and Treatments: This course covers the benefits of backing carpet, the backings process, identifies the main types of backing systems and identified the technical features of carpet treatments. Not approved for HS or W CEU credit.

  • CEU 206 — IDCEC Course #5000 — Introduction to Carpet Specification: This course covers construction and performance specifications; elements of both types of specifications; how ”tight“ specifications should be; and how to specify for performance, indoor air quality, installation, maintenance, and environmental issues. Approved for W CEU credit.

  • CEU 301 — IDCEC Course #5144 — Carpet Maintenance: This two hour course provides the student with the carpet specifications and the importance of maintenance. In addition, there is a plan for developing a carpet maintenance program, stating preventive measures, vacuuming, spots and spills, scheduled maintenance and deep cleaning. A description of the Carpet and Rug Institute's Seal of Approval program is included along with a period for questions and answers. Not approved for HS or W CEU credit.

  • CEU 303 — AIA Course — Seal of Approval Certification for Carpet Cleaning Systems: This one-hour course provides participants with information on the purpose of CRI's Seal of Approval (SOA) Program, what products and services are covered under the SOA Program, the SOA test criteria and how to select the appropriate SOA product for effective carpet cleaning and maintenance. In addition, participants will understand the need to include SOA in commercial carpet specifications and how it may affect warranties. This CEU will also provide information on where to find SOA information and how to compare and contrast carpet cleaning products. Approved for HSW CEU credit.

  • CEU 501 — AIA Course — IDCEC Course #5496 — Carpet in Educational Facilities: This one hour course provides the participant will be able to evaluate how Students and teachers feel about carpet; show how carpet helped improve Student achievement; list some physical and non-physical benefits of carpeting For classrooms; offer ways to improve acoustics in schools; list ways that Carpet contributes to good indoor air quality; and, describe why carpet Is a good flooring choice for schools. Approved for HSW CEU credit.

  • CEU 601 — AIA Course — Green Label Plus Testing Carpet Cushion and Adhesives: This one hour course provides the student with the knowledge of what Green Label Plus testing is and how is can help the student specify carpet that is safer and better for clean, healthy indoor air. In addition, guidelines for specifying low-emitting carpet and adhesives according to high Indoor Air Quality Standards. Approved for HSW CEU credit.

  • CEU 701 — AIA Course — Carpet Industry and Sustainability: This one-hour course assists participants in understanding some of the key sustainability issues faced by the carpet industry and how the industry is responding. In addition, participants will be able to define sustainability, state ways that the carpet industry has embraced sustainable practices, and explain how the carpet industry is a leader in sustainability. Approved for HSW CEU credit.

  • CEU 703 — AIA Course — Sustainability - The Green Carpet Standard: This one-hour course will focus on sustainability - what it is and why it is important. By the end of the course, participants will know the benefits of environmental standards and will be able to identify the elements of the new NSF 140 green carpet standard. Approved for HSW CEU credit.
